Lifetime Launches Its Own Streaming Service “Lifetime Movie Club”

Lifetime has followed the steps of HBO, Showtime, CBS, Nickelodeon and a host of channels by launching its own commercial-free, over-the-top subscription for cord cutters. The price to get this women’s cable network is $3.99 a month.

The app, called the Lifetime Movie Club, is not going to stream the channel’s linear network feed, as that would conflict with its current distributors. It will launch on Apple’s iTunes.

App subscribers will be able to access over 30 movies that will categorized into themed playlists such as:lifetime-movie-club-510x0

  • Dramatic Affair
  • Summer Loving
  • Ripped from the Headlines
  • Murder & Mayhem

The network said movies will be updated on a weekly basis.

Some of the titles that will be available for streaming when it does launch is Dawn Anna, Too Young To Marry, A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story, Flowers in The Attic and Coco Chanel.

It will not include any of the recent Lifetime movies such as “A Deadly Adoption” starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. It hopes to stem the tide of cord cutters by only putting on the older content on the Movie Club.

Lifetime has been making original TV films for 30 years now.

The Lifetime Movie Club is different from the HBO’s standalone streaming service HBO Now at $11 a month. Showtime’s streaming service will be $11 a month (or $9 a month for subscribers of Hulu), which can include live access to both West and East Coast network feeds along with the streaming of old and new shows.
