JetBlue, in partnership with the Major League Baseball Association Media, have come together to offer streaming for its in-flight customers. Customers can now access the MLB.TV through MLB.com using the “At Bat” mobile app through their tablet, smartphones, and laptops.
JetBlue passengers can access the company’s onboard broadband Internet Fly-Fi was more than 2,500 live and archived games through MLB.TV’s website. While the streaming service typically needs subscription to be accessed, customers of JetBlue are given access for free.
Customers will be able to watch any regular season game, regardless of the team and the time.
Jamie Perry, vice president of JetBlue’s brand and product development team, said the launch of MLB.TV is a winner for customers who enjoy getting free entertainment while in-flight on JetBlue airlines. He said there is an endless array of entertainment options like sports, television, music, movies, e-books and news that can be accessed on multiple screens. Perry said this is a step up from the yester-years of drop-down movies that many airlines are still providing to their customers.
JetBlue is offering Internet speeds of up to 20mbps on every device. The MLB.TV service is the first live sports channel to be added to the airline’s entertainment content.
JetBlue is the only airline to offer free Wi-Fi. Along with the MLB.TV service, customers can watch DirecTV programming and listen to SiriusXM radio.
According to the company, 90 percent of its Airbus planes have been equipped with the Fly-Fi broadband service. By the end of September, all of its planes should be equipped with the service. The company’s Embraer E190 planes should have Fly-Fi service in 2016.
