shout factory logoShout! Factory, a home video company, is creating a library full of movies, TV shows and specials – think Mystery Science Theater 3000 and black and white Dennis the Menace – with the streaming service being paid through ads.

Available at the website ShoutFactoryTV.com as well as Roku streaming video devices are more than 2,500 full-length TV shows and movies that include Facts of Life, Adam 12, Fantasy Island and Parker Louis Can’t Lose. In the film category, viewers can check out: An American Christmas Carol, Darkman, and the Gene Audry film collection.

The website has a powerful social media presence (more than 300,000 followers) and offers Blu-ray discs, DVDs and music.  Garson Foos, the founder of Shout! Factory, said many titles have built-in audiences.

He said the company has looked for numerous ways in which to expand its digital business, and believes this is the time to create a direct-to-consumer streaming service. Foos said most well-known services – Hulu, Netflix, etc. – are particular about their content offerings. However, he said, there is still an unmet need for the cult/classic/niche content, and given the company’s current position, Shout! Factory is ready to exploit it.

Shout! Factory TV will have superior-quality SD and HD video. For the moment, viewing can only be done on the website and through mobile devices with the Roku app. Apps for iOS and Android are being looked at.
