Roku Is Set To Bring 4K Ultra HD Streaming To Consumers

Roku, Inc. is set to introduce 4K Ultra HD streaming for its impending Roku TV models. The firm came up with a Roku TV reference plan for 4K smart TVs that will be licensed to TV OEM partners. The first partner in the building of these models is TCL.

Roku has also partnered with Netflix to offer 4K content for streaming through the Roku platform.

Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt said the company is the first of the streaming services to offer this type of service to its customers, which makes it important for Netflix to work alongside its partners to provide consumers additional streaming choices.

With the prices on 4K TVs declining at a rapid pace, Roku is taking advantage of this by offering value for its consumers.  The Business Insider Intelligence said prices on these TVs in the North American continent dropped approximately 90 percent from 2012 to 2014.

Anthony Wood, Roku Chief Executive Officer said the moment for Roku to offer this service to TV OEMs is now.  Wood said they’re being bullish about 4K because the company feels streaming is key to its adoption. With 4K being offered on the Roku platform, consumers get more choices and control over what they view and get the best possible streaming experience.

Roku TV launched an unpretentious entertainment experience to the smart TV market; but, it lacked streaming choices, had unclear features and complex menus. With an individualized home screen, the company’s customers could get access to every one of their television entertainment sources – cable boxes, satellite boxes, gaming consoles and over 2,000 streaming channels without going through menus and inputs.

With a few clicks on the remote, they can stream a movie, play games and watch live programming.  Only the important settings and buttons are found on Roku TVs simple remote control.

Chris Larson, TCL North America vice president of sales and marketing, said the company’s expectations on the reception of the TCL Roku TV models were surpassed. He said the company is excited to work alongside Roku to create TCL Roku TV 4K models, which is set to bring the newest TV design so consumers can have a smart TV experience.
