The Cloud Media Open Hour Chameleon has been making a lot of news lately, I’ve rounded up some IFA 2014 coverage to show you more about it. Cloud Media has been at IFA 2014 showing off their goods. The Open Hour Chameleon seems almost a little too good to be true – but it looks like this thing does exist, and is living up to its claims.
There are a few blogs posting some updates on this device, going into a little more detail than Open Hour’s website by showing internals and more detailed images of the box and the menus.
For those not in the loop, here is a rundown of some of the specs:
- Based on Rockchip RK3288
- 4-core ARM processor Cortex A17
- 4K / UHD
- compatible with HEVC UHD encoded videos
- Android (4.4.2) KitKat Installed
- Option to run your own OS – Linux, Chrome OS, etc
- XBMC Built in
- Option to ‘auto start’ certain apps (XBMC!)
- Gigabit Ethernet port
- three USB 2.0 ports
- optical output
- coaxial
- HDMI

Hey, can you make a review of it? How it works and stuff? I have many questions because Rockchip boxes in the past had a lot of problems to work as i needed it, too many stuff didn’t work.
Does the optical out work fine? Can i watch a movie with the image going from the HDMI and the sound 5.1 surround (DTS/DD) from the optical?
Is the h.265 decoder an hardware decoder?
Hey,
I hope to review this, yes. Once it is available to the public I will be doing a review of the Open Hour Chameleon.
Thank you for the interest!
Ive been using for a short while a minix and it is so unstable and does play 4 k but doesn’t buffer enough data and plays back very jittery. Crashes a lot. This looks like what I have been waiting for and hope to see some reviews for it soon. The c200 has been such a workhorse and hope that this will be a great step up.
